Summer’s here (and the time is right for dancing in the street…you know you wanted to sing that out loud, didn’t you?), and that means time for outdoor entertaining. You can add sparkle to your outdoor events with a little help from Kool Tak™. This summer votive adds a splash of sparkle to your summer decor. And because I used Kool Tak TM Ultra Clear Adhesive Sheets, the heat from the sun or a candle will not make the adhesive curl. I just love this stuff!
This summer votive is made by using a simple small hurricane jar and candle base. I just added a few flowers and some of the marvelous Kool Tak™ Sparkle to make it special.
I made the first version and added flowers to the base, but I really like the look of the base with the flowers on the jar alone, So to keep the ribbon flowers from going to waste (Who am I kidding? Those would have gone in my stash for another project!), I tied a piece of ribbon around my napkins and added the flowers to that.
Here’s how I did it:
Supplies
- Kool Tak™ Sparkle Bonus Pack, Blue, Pink and Gold
- Sizzix Die and Big Shot Machine
- Small Hurricane Votive Holder
- Organdy Ribbon, ½”, pink, blue, ivory
- Votive Candle
- Candle Base
Tools: Scissors, 1 3/8” circle punch, craft knife or scissors
Directions
Votive Holder
1. Clean the votive glass to remove all smudges and oils from the glass. Using the Ultra Clear Heat Resistant adhesive sheet, cut five flowers with the Sizzix die and enough flower centers from the same die for the glittered flowers and centers of the flowers. Apply the flowers to votive. Note: Because you will be lighting the candle, it’s important to use a tape that is heat resistant and therefore won’t curl or fail when exposed to high temperatures.
2. Remove the backing sheet from one flower and apply glitter to the sticky adhesive. Continue this step until all flowers are glittered.
3. Apply the circles to the flower centers, remove backing sheets and then apply the Gold Threading Beads.
Ribbon Flowers
1. Punch the circles using a 1 3/8” punch. Remove the backing sheet and apply the ribbon to the adhesive, pleating the ribbon as you go. When you have covered the outside edge, continue pleating on the remaining exposed adhesive surface to finish.
2. Apply the flowers to the candle base or use it as napkin ring décor.
Love this project, Candice – it is beautiful!
