September is here and why not go back to school with some fabulous accessories? The stores are full of cute (and inexpensive) school supplies, so I decided to alter a spiral notebook, pencil case, pencils and a headband and send my niece, Marlee back to school in STYLE!
MATERIALS:
Spiral notebook, zippered pencil case, pencils and pink glittered headband.

KOOL TAK™ NEW – Shiny Transfer Foil Sheets – Pattern Series – Mardi Gras
KOOL TAK™ Artist Tape – Black – 1/4″ x 60 yards
KOOL TAK™ Sparkly Adhesive Sheet – Clear
Scissors, Pencil, Flower Chipboard Shapes (4 sizes), Chipboard Initial, Black Sharpie, Craft Knife, Rhinestones (2 Pink & 1 Black)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Place three (3) strips of 2 1/2″ wide Premium Extreme, vertically on front cover of notebook. Start just shy of the spiral binding and butt each section next to the other. Trim around the edges with scissors. I use non-stick, Teflon coated scissors from Fiskars.
2) Peel back the release paper from the strip closest to the spiral. Apply the Fuchsia foil from the Shiny Foil Transfer Sheets – Mardi Gras. Make sure the color side is up and the grey side is down. Rub the foil with the pad of your finger or thumb to gently burnish. Peel the foil sheet backing from the edge and continue this process until the first strip is completely covered. Repeat on middle strip by applying Rainbow foil from the Carnival set of foils. Repeat with Purple foil from the Mardi Gras set.
3) Apply a strip of 1/4″ Black Artist Tape at both seams to hide the raw edges. Using jumbo chipboard flower as a template, trace the outline on the back of the Sparkly Adhesive Sheet. Cut out with scissors, peel back release paper and apply to bottom left corner of notebook.
4) Apply a strip of 1/2″ and 1″ Premium Extreme to the front of the pencil case, that you cut out of the 2 1/2″ wide Premium Extreme. Peel back release paper from the 1/2″ strip and apply Purple Leopard foil from the Mardi Gras set. Make sure the color side is up and grey side is down. Rub the foil with the pad of your finger or thumb to gently burnish. Peel the foil sheet backing from the edge and continue this process until the first strip is completely covered. Repeat with the 1″ Premium Extreme strip. Color chipboard initial with Black Sharpie and attach to pencil case with 1″ Premium Extreme, by trimming excess with craft knife.
5) Apply large flower chipboard shape to 2 1/2″ Premium Extreme and cut around edges with craft knife. Peel back release paper and apply Purple foil from the Mardi Gras set. Using the release paper as a template, trace the flower shape on the back of the Sparkly Adhesive Sheet. Cut out with scissors, peel back release paper and apply over the foiled Purple Flower. Apply black adhesive rhinestone to center. Repeat with medium and small flowers using Purple Leopard foil, Sparkly Adhesive Sheet and hot pink adhesive rhinestones. Apply to side of headband with Micro Dots – Permanent.
6) Roll out the Premium Extreme on your work surface, lay pencil next to tape, mark length and cut a 1″ strip out of the 2 1/2″ tape OR use a 1″ roll of Premium Extreme tape.
NOTE: Depending on your preference and budget, buying the larger width of tape is more economical in the long-run and is more versatile. With the wider roll, you can die-cut your own stickers for example. And, you can customize the width of the tape as needed.
7) Place pencil in center of Premium Extreme and burnish to pencil by rolling on work surface. Carefully peel back release paper. Handle pencil by eraser and point.
8) Place Pink Ripple foil from the Mardi Gras set on your work surface, with the grey side up. Place the pencil on the foil and burnish gently with the pad of your finger or thumb. Peel the foil sheet backing from the edge and continue this process until the first pencil is completely covered. Repeat with second pencil and Silver Streaks foil. Repeat with Rainbow foil.
